UFC 117: Silva vs. Sonnen - 11. Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen

Middleweight Championship bout: Anderson Silva defeated Chael Sonnen via submission (triangle armbar) at 3:10 of round 5 to retain the UFC Middleweight Championship.

Anderson Silva was awarded a $60,000 bonus for Submission of the Night.
Anderson Silva defeated Chael Sonnen were each awarded $60,000 bonuses for Fight of the Night.

  1. Sonnen was far more successful at stifling Silva's offense from the bottom. Silva showed that he can take a lot of damage, as Sonnen did land a lot of solid shots. Sonnen dictated the fight so that he wasn't fighting such a dominant striker, but just a BJJ black belt. And in the end that proved enough for Silva.

    We can all expect Sonnen claims of not tapping.
