UFC 83 - Serra vs. St. Pierre II

UFC 83: Serra vs St-Pierre 2 was held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The event was held on April 19, 2008, at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

UFC 83 was the UFC's first event in Canada. The event on this date was originally scheduled to be called UFC 84, but following the cancellation of a tentatively scheduled March 8, 2008 event in England, the event's title was changed to UFC 83 instead. It was headlined by UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Serra and UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre in a match to decide the undisputed champion. Several prominent Canadian fighters were set to compete, including Kalib Starnes, Mark Bocek, Jason MacDonald, Sam Stout, and Jonathan Goulet. Patrick Côté was scheduled to fight as well, but was forced to pull out after sustaining an injury in a slip-and-fall accident.

I thought this card had some potential, but it was one of the worst UFCs I've ever seen thanks to some piss poor performances from Kalib Starnes, who ran away the entire fight, Charles McCarthy, who had absolutely nothing but a take down attempts, Travis Lutter, who gassed in the second round, and even Matt Serra who had no offense from the bottom.

Kenny Florian did a great job as color commentator. He was quick and was able provide appropriate analysis and commentary on fighter technique and strategy. In addition his post fight interviews were exceptionally appropriate.
